The CTICC remains committed to safety and continues to operate during the ongoing taxi strike in Cape Town

Cape Town – 9 August 2023 – As the ongoing strike by the Cape Town taxi industry brought severe disruption in the city, the Cape Town International Convention Center (CTICC) has remained unscathed during the crisis that surrounds us.

Although several parts of the city came to a standstill during this time, the CTICC remained operational, while being committed to ensuring the safety of our clients, visitors, and staff.

We managed to continue operations with the Netball World Cup 2023, and the hosting of the BRICS Ministers of Communication Meeting without any incidents.

As a safety precaution, we arranged private transportation for our staff to travel to and from work for critical event operations during the taxi strike.

“For the staff who were unable to leave the city centre were provided with alternative accommodation overnight. Those travelling from hotspots were instructed to stay home or remain in a place of safety”, said Taubie Motlhabane, CEO of the CTICC.

“We take safety and security very seriously at the CTICC. As much as we are focused
on keeping the doors open for business, our first priority is always people. The safety of
our clients, visitors and staff surpasses any profit”, Motlhabane continued.

The CTICC has fostered good relationships with the various security services in the City and Province. These relationships have proved useful once more for the CTICC in the last few days.

Being well and timeously informed allows us to make the right decisions about safety at our venue and for the people we serve.

“Our security team will continue to monitor the situation with the help of the City of Cape Town’s Metro Police and Traffic Services and provide the necessary information to our stakeholders, as well as take the necessary precautions where relevant”.

The CTICC remains passionate about providing excellent customer service while ensuring the safety of all those around us.

We look forward to the positive resolution of the taxi strike.
