Covid-19 Update

The CTICC has noted the announcement made by South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa on measures to help mitigate the impact and spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19). A concise disaster management plan is being set out by the national government, with various mechanisms implemented as a result. The two which directly impact the centre’s business include the prohibition of all gatherings over 100 people and restrictions on international and national travel.

Taubie Motlhabane, CEO of the Cape Town International Convention Centre, confirmed the CTICC’s commitment to aligning with the evolving global, national and local protocols established to help prevent and minimise the impact of the virus.

“As the potential impact on the spread of COVID-19 continues to unfold, it is incumbent upon all of us to play our part in containing the spread of the virus.  The health and safety of our employees, clients and partners remains our number one priority. The CTICC will continue to implement all recommendations outlined by the emergency and rapid response systems set up by the national government as the situation evolves.”

“Our business’s core focus is the hosting of large gatherings. We, therefore, share in the challenges that event-size and travel restrictions have on the meeting industry around the world. We also appreciate the severe economic impact that cancelling or postponing an event has on event organisers, suppliers, and delegates. As we all adapt to this new world reality, we need to take this opportunity to investigate how we can all diversify our businesses, and work with our clients and colleagues in developing strategies for the long term resilience of the meeting industry.”
